Certifying Healthcare Providers / How to Register
How to Register
Get step-by-step instructions for becoming a Certifying Healthcare Provider with the Massachusetts Medical Use of Marijuana Program (Program).
Step 1: Review the Requirements
For purposes of this program, Certifying Healthcare Providers include nurse practitioners, physicians, and physician assistants. All applicants are encouraged to review the Commission’s regulations, including but not limited to the following: 935 CMR 501.006, 935 CMR 501.007, and 935 CMR 501.008.
Some relevant information:
- Certifying Healthcare Providers are required to have an active license, with no prescribing restrictions, to practice as nurse practitioners, physicians, and physician assistants, as applicable.
- Certifying Healthcare Providers must possess a Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration from the Department of Public Health (DPH).
- Certifying Healthcare Providers must have at least one established place of practice in Massachusetts.
Step 2: Access, Complete, and Submit Your Application
The Commission’s Certifying Healthcare Provider electronic PDF application can be located through the agency’s Forms and Templates page online at MassCannabisControl.com. Please respond to all applicable questions and provide all requested documentation.
Once completed, the applicant should combine their application and all required information into a single PDF document and email it to Licensing@CCCMass.com.
Please note: there is no fee for prospective Certifying Healthcare Providers to apply.
Step 3: Respond to Commission Notices and Next Steps
Once the Commission receives your Certifying Healthcare Provider application, staff will review it for completeness. If additional information is required, the agency will send a notice to the email address associated with your application.
After the Commission approves your application, you will receive an automatic notice from the Medical Use of Marijuana Online System (“MMJOS”) noting your username and the need to create a password for your account.
Once you establish your account in MMJOS, you may certify patients, search for patients, update your registration information, and generate reports.
If you have any questions about the Certifying Healthcare Provider application or process, please contact Licensing@CCCMass.com.
