Notice | Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission Public Health and Safety Advisory: Potentially Contaminated Marijuana Products | February 3, 2025

The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (“Commission”) is issuing a health and safety advisory due to the identification of contaminated and potentially contaminated Marijuana flower and/or Marijuana pre-rolls (“the affected products”). The affected products were sold between May 31, 2024, and January 23, 2025. The affected products and Marijuana Retailers/dispensing Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers are identified below. 

The affected products previously passed required compliance testing between March 2024 and June 2024; however, following additional compliance testing, samples of the affected products were found to have the presence of yeast and mold above the acceptable testing limits established for Total Yeast and Mold and coliforms. The affected products are subject to further investigation by the Commission and would be subject to confirmatory retesting and passing results before the products can be made available to the public.  

The Commission deems a threat to public health and safety when Marijuana is found to have Total Yeast and Mold above the acceptable limits established in Exhibit 6 of the Protocol for the Sampling and Analysis of Finished Marijuana Products and Marijuana Products for Marijuana Establishments, Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers, and Colocated Marijuana Operations.  

Consumers and Patients are urged to check whether any of the affected products are currently in their possession. Consumers and Patients that possess any of the affected products may destroy it or return it to the store where they purchased it for proper disposal. Please contact the retailer the product was purchased from based on the included chart. 

Consumers and Patients who experience adverse health effects after consuming the affected products should seek medical attention and notify the retailer.  

Pursuant to Commission regulations, all Marijuana offered for retail sale must include a label affixed to the Marijuana’s packaging that indicates the product’s batch number. Consumers and Patients should check the label of the product for the batch numbers listed below under “Product Information.”
