Cannabis Control Commissioner Bruce Stebbins Named Acting Chair by State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg
WORCESTER—Following the announcement that State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg has appointed Bruce Stebbins to serve as Acting Chair of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (Commission) until a permanent Chair is selected, Commission leaders have issued the following statements as they turn toward the agency’s next public meeting happening today, Thursday, September 12.
“I am honored to accept the role of Acting Chair and look forward to working together with my colleagues and Commission staff on important policy initiatives in the coming months,” Stebbins said. “This is a crucial time for the state’s cannabis industry, which has grown in my four years as a Commissioner into a multi-billion-dollar, increasingly equitable marketplace. I take seriously our mission to oversee safe, accessible cannabis businesses and will continue supporting Massachusetts’ growth as a regional and national regulatory leader in this space.”
“Having worked alongside Acting Chair Stebbins for the past four years, I am confident he will lead the Commission forward, focusing on forthcoming policy work, as well as upholding the Commission’s commitments to equity and public health and safety for consumers, patients, and licensees,” Commissioner Nurys Camargo said.
“I look forward to working with Acting Chair Stebbins as the Commission continues its role as a regulator of the state’s now $7 billion cannabis industry. Now more than ever, it is critically important we remain focused and responsive in our policy decisions to help provide positive and meaningful impact in this still emerging and evolving marketplace,” Commissioner Kimberly Roy said.
“We are excited to welcome Bruce Stebbins—an experienced member of the Cannabis Control Commission—as our new Acting Chair,” said Debbie Hilton-Creek, the Commission’s Acting Executive Director and Chief People Officer. “Acting Chair Stebbins has been with the Commission through key changes, including major state cannabis law reforms, and recent efforts to expand the industry with delivery and social consumption licenses. Most importantly, he actively works very well with, and is incredibly supportive of the staff, and is dedicated to the Commission’s mission to grow and maintain a safe, effective, and equitable cannabis marketplace for licensees, consumers, and patients.”
