Bulletin | Marijuana Research Facility License Applications and Research Permits | August 12, 2021
From: Shawn Collins, Executive Director
Date: August 12, 2021
Subject: Bulletin #2 on Marijuana Research Facility License Applications and Research Permits
This bulletin (Bulletin #2) addresses the status of Marijuana Research Facility (“Research”) license applications and permits. The Cannabis Control Commission (“Commission”) is announcing that it will start reviewing all submitted Research license applications and accepting Research permit applications as of the date of this bulletin.
Last summer, all applicants who had started a Research license application in the Massachusetts Cannabis Industry Portal (“MassCIP”) were notified the Commission was proposing changes to its regulations. The Commission had become aware that certain factors could prohibit applicants from legally performing research involving marijuana and marijuana products. The factors prevented Commission staff from performing compliance reviews of the fully submitted Research applications.
Commission staff have since implemented new regulations that address the previously identified factors. Additionally, the Commission is making available frequently asked questions pertaining to Research license applications, permit applications, and compliance requirements to help guide applicants and licensees.
Research license applicants can expect their applications will be reviewed shortly. This review may include the need to update previously submitted information and to ensure full compliance with the Commission’s new regulations. All applicants will receive notifications to the business email address contained within their license application.
