Cannabis Control Commission, City Awake Co-Host “Intersection of Cannabis and Equity” Networking Event for Millennials of Color
BOSTON—As part of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce/City Awake’s Fierce Urgency of Now Festival, the Cannabis Control Commission invites Millennials of Color to participate in a networking event on Tuesday, September 25 focused on the “Intersection of Cannabis and Equity.”
Attendees will learn about opportunities to start, manage, or work in Marijuana Establishments and meet representatives who can share helpful resources for entering the legal, adult-use cannabis marketplace, including the nation’s first statewide Social Equity Program.
Who Will Be There: Other Millennials of Color, ages 21 and older, especially:
- Individuals of African American/Black and/or Hispanic/Latino descent;
- Women, veterans, and farmers; as well as
- Those from areas with high rates of arrest, conviction, and incarceration related to marijuana crimes, and specifically those with, or whose parents and/or spouse have, past drug convictions.
What’s Happening: Networking with young leaders who want to create or support adult-use cannabis businesses.
- Attendees will hear firsthand from Commissioner Shaleen Title, who coauthored Massachusetts’ marijuana legalization referendum and has consulted on marijuana policy around the country.
- Commission staff will lead discussion about:
- The effects of marijuana prohibition on communities of color;
- Steps Massachusetts is taking to include those who have been disproportionately harmed; and
- Growing entrepreneurial and employment opportunities in the Commonwealth.
When: Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 5-7 p.m.
Where: The National Center of Afro-American Artists
300 Walnut Avenue
Roxbury, Massachusetts 02119
Why: The mission of the Cannabis Control Commission is to honor the will of Massachusetts voters by safely, equitably and effectively implementing and administering the laws enabling access to medical and adult-use marijuana. Equity provisions have been enacted to fulfill a legislative mandate that the Commission ensures people from communities disproportionately harmed by marijuana law enforcement are included in the legal industry.
How to Sign-Up: Visit the Intersection of Cannabis and Equity event page to register now.
