Marijuana Establishments and Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers offer tested products with detailed packaging and labeling information about product contents, statewide access for adults and patients seeking alternatives to the illicit market, and adult-use cannabis tax revenue for key initiatives including youth prevention campaigns and community reinvestment funds.
Adult-use marijuana specifically is subject to:
- A state sales tax: 6.25%
- A state excise tax 10.75%
- A local option tax for cities or towns: up to 3%
Under Massachusetts law, the sale of medical-use marijuana is not subject to tax, as long as patients present their Medical Use of Marijuana Program ID Card and valid government-issued identification at the time of sale. More information about marijuana taxation in Massachusetts is available here through the Department of Revenue.
All Cannabis Control Commission (Commission) licensees must register and trace their products using the Commonwealth’s seed-to-sale tracking technology of record. This dashboard provides a snapshot of aggregated sales data as of the date shown.
