New Caregiver / Visiting a MTC for the first time
Visiting a Medical Marijuana Treatment Center
Are you a caregiver who is visiting a Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MTC) for the first time? Here are a few tips to optimize your experience.
Search for a MTC.
Visit this interactive map to find a location near you.
Plan ahead.
Many MTCs post a menu of current products and pricing on their websites.
Consider visiting during an off-peak time.
Friday nights and weekends tend to be busy times at most MTCs.
You must present a valid photo ID at the door.
This can be a current driver’s license, passport, military ID, or state-issued ID card showing that you are 21 years or older. No temporary forms of ID are accepted.
You’ll be asked to complete a patient intake form with the MTC.
Some retail shops allow you to fill out the form online prior to your visit.
Ask questions.
From flower to edibles, tinctures to concentrates, there are a myriad of marijuana options to choose from at MTCs. Not sure which one is right for your Registered Qualifying Patient (Patient)? Ask a knowledgeable technician for help.
Know the limits.
Massachusetts law allows a Patient to possess up to a 60-day supply (up to 10 ounces) for personal medical use.
No sampling.
State regulations require that all products must be sold in sealed, tamper-resistant packaging. No products can be opened or consumed inside the MTC.
You must present a valid Massachusetts Medical Use of Marijuana registration card.
Other forms accepted at the point of sale include an Initial Access document from a certified physician or a 14-day temporary Program ID card, which you may print at the time of your approved registration.
Cash or debit only.
MTCs in Massachusetts do not accept credit cards. Also, some retailers may charge a fee for using your debit card.
Wait to consume at home.
Massachusetts law prohibits marijuana use in any form in public places. Also, you may not have an open container of any type of marijuana product in your vehicle.
