When voters approved the legalization of adult-use cannabis in Massachusetts, they envisioned a safe, accessible regulated marketplace that created new economic opportunities for the state and especially for individuals who were hurt most by prohibition.
Today the Commonwealth can take pride in the fact that its vision is moving towards reality: The Cannabis Control Commission has authorized Pure Oasis, LLC to open as soon Monday, marking the first operating marijuana retailer in Boston and first certified economic empowerment applicant to launch adult-use cannabis sales on the East Coast.
As important as this milestone is, we recognize it is just a first step. There is much work left to do. Ideally, this should serve as motivation to open more businesses that accomplish Massachusetts’ mandate to ensure full participation in the legal industry by those most impacted by the war on drugs, and particularly people of color.
